Senior Minister - Steve Sisco

Background - My wife and I began dating in 1980 while attending Park Hills High School of Fairborn, Ohio. We graduated from high school in 1982 and married in 1983. I accepted Christ as Savior and Lord when I was forgiven for sin upon my baptism into Christ in 1980.

In 1983, I decided to be all I could be and entered into military service with the U.S. Army and upon completion of training; spent the next three years in Darmstadt West Germany. In 1987 we returned to the United States and I continued using my military training as an emergency generator technician in the civilian market.

We became members of West Side Church of Christ in Lebanon, Ohio in 1989 where I served as; deacon, missions secretary, Sunday School teacher, camp counselor, elder and in 2003; youth minister.

In 2009, upon completion of my bachelors degree for ministry and leadership earned through Cincinnati Christian University, I left the generator field and entered into full time Christian service. I assumed the ministry duties as senior minister with New Testament Christian Church of Central City Kentucky where God matured my ministry. In October 2012, I began my new duties as senior minister with First Church of Christ Fairborn, Ohio.

My wife has also worked in the church as Sunday School teacher, camp counselor, VBS teacher and now a ministers wife. She is an assistant teachers aid for special needs students currently at the high school level.

Secretary - Patti Tinsley

Background - I took training in high school to be a secretary. Of course, the training was much different than now. I took some adult classes in computer and have learned much from trial and error. I attended beauty school and graduated obtaining the certificate so I would be able to work my way through college. I attended Midwest Christian College for 2 years, however I did not get my degree because I became a wife and then a mother of beautiful baby girl. A couple of years later we were blessed with a son.  My husband joined the air force and we were stationed at Holloman AFB. in Alamagordo, New Mexico.  This was my first time away from home and very eye opening. If it were not for my Christian friends I would never have made those first years.

I became a Christian when I was 13 years old at church camp. It was the last night of camp and we had a vespers finish at the water. God had been working on my heart all week so that night I gave my life to Him and it has been an amazing walk with an awesome GOD.

It has been a blessing to be the secretary of First Church of Christ. I feel like I come to church everyday. The minister and I start everyday with prayer and then work to make First Church the best it can be and a place for YOU.

Elders & Deacons

What is an Elder?

  • The Basics: An elder is a man who (i) meets the qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9, (ii) is recognized by his congregation as an elder, (iii) and leads the congregation by teaching the Word (1 Tim. 3:2), praying for the congregation (Jas. 5:14), and overseeing the affairs of the church (1 Pet. 5:2).
  • Oversight: An elder must watch over the flock. He must instruct all the sheep, strengthen the weak ones, guard the vulnerable ones, rebuke the obstinate ones, and bear with the difficult ones (2 Tim. 2:24-25; Acts 20:28; 1 Thess. 5:14). An elder watches over the members of his church as one who will give an account to God (Heb. 13:17)
  • Plurality: In the New Testament, local churches consistently have a plurality (fancy word for multiple) of elders (Acts 14:23, 20:17; Phil. 1:1; 1 Tim. 5:17; Jas. 5:14). Christ, the Chief Shepherd, means to care for his flock through a number of godly men who together teach, guard, guide, protect, and love the sheep.

What is a Deacon?

  • Basics: In the New Testament, the word usually translated "serve" is the Greek word diakoneo. It refers to an attendant, a waiter, or one who ministers to another. From this word we get the English word “deacon.” We first see the word "deacon" used this way in the book of Acts.
  • Duties: Today, for the biblical church, these roles are essentially the same. Elders and pastors are to “preach the word…" and deacons are to be appointed to take care of everything else. In a modern church, this might include taking on administrative or organizational tasks, ushering, being responsible for building maintenance, or volunteering to be the church treasurer. It depends on the need and the gifts of the available men.
  • Qualifications for a deacon’s character are clearly outlined in Scripture. They are to be blameless, the husband of one wife, a good household manager, respectable, honest, not addicted to alcohol and not greedy (1 Timothy 3:8-12). According to the Word, the office of deacon is an honor and a blessing. “For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 3:13).
